We moved on June 1, 2005 and now my neighbors already see me as the neighbor from hell :)
As the story goes.l it started on July 3, 2005. My one neighbor whom my brother-in-law Phil calls 'the drunk', has a small party.
At his party about 25 people arrive with food and a karaoke machine. The cheesy karaoke music and off tune singing pollutes the air surrounding my den. I stew about a little, annoyed, but I let it go. That evening the same neighbor Eric fires fireworks.
Like an idiot he fires them directly from his back lawn. Even though they are illegal, I do nothing but stew about and jump. I am the only one being annoyed, I guess. And, as long as he does not hit my window or start my roof on fire, I decide to let him live.
On July 4th, my other neighbor Carson, has a party. This time again fireworks are present. Rather than shooting them from his own lawn, he walks across the street and shots them above a common area. I stew about in my den with whizzing and popping startling me at random intervals. Eventually, this ends. However, I am a little pissed off at my neighbors disregard for common decency and common sense. On July 29, 2005 my neighbor Carson senior has a birthday party for his son Carson Jr., who is two. At the party there are about 50 people if you count all the kids running around. There is a keg of beer in the garage. Again, fireworks enter the quiet night surrounding my den. This time my pregnant wife calls out "Is that a gun?". " I hear a gun". I assumed it was fireworks. However, it could be a gun. I like to think I can tell the difference, but the initial cracks in the night sound similar to a handgun.
So, impulsively, I dial 911. Upon dialing, my wife says never mind it is fireworks. So, my 8 month pregnant wife is distressed. And, I am angry, so I report the incident to the police. The sheriff comes in a timely 15 minutes. I do not know my neighbors, because I was waiting for them to come to me. I guess this was the wrong idea. Additionally, with them drinking, I am not going to attempt and
confront them. It is safer for the police to come then for me angry and them drinking to engage one other. The police come and go.
The following day, I look out the window. The fireworks are still on the sidewalk. Additionally, there a missile stuck in my lawn.
I am really annoyed now. So, when the lady of the house, Gale, comes over to clean up the mess the husband made, I walk over and confront her. "Excuse me, I realize you are just attempting to have fun, but I do not appreciate those fireworks." "The houses in this community are very close together". She responds, "I know I keep telling my husband not to do it." I add, "Additionally, fireworks are illegal in this state". She responds, "I know the police came." Then I threaten, "if your fireworks start my house on fire it will be your homeowners insurance that will be going up." and I walk home.
The next day, passes uneventful. The next day similar. However, on Monday my wife asks me what I did. I learn that I had caused the neighbor lady to cry for a few days. At this point, I do not really care. However, I am a little upset that I am asked to apologize. If anything they should apologize.
